The cheapest piece of hardware in the house and the one that prevents the most expensive repair. A lever through plasterboard is a patch, a sand, a repaint and a colour that never quite matches.
Floor or wall
A floor mounted stop is the more secure fix and suits tile, timber or concrete. A wall mounted stop is the better answer where the floor is carpet, where the door opens against a wall, or where a floor stop would be a trip hazard in a hallway.
Magnetic
A magnetic stop holds the door open, which matters on a windy site or where a door needs to stay back. Worth specifying on laundry and garage doors.
Specify them up front
Door stops are the item left off almost every schedule and bought in a panic afterwards in the wrong finish. Add one per door when you order the handles.
