Cupboard Knobs - Ella Grace

Cupboard Knobs

Cupboard knobs from Iver, Hepburn Hardware and Ookami Studio, in solid brass and solid timber.

A knob is the right answer more often than people expect. On an upper cabinet door, a narrow drawer, a bathroom vanity or a wardrobe, a long pull is simply too much hardware for the door it sits on.

Sizing

Most cupboard knobs sit between 25mm and 35mm across. Under 25mm starts to feel fiddly in a wet hand. Over 40mm reads as a feature rather than a fitting, which is sometimes exactly what you want on a statement piece.

Projection matters as much as diameter. You need room to get a finger behind it, and about 25mm to 30mm is comfortable for most people.

Knobs with pulls

Knobs on the upper doors with pulls on the drawers is the most common combination in a kitchen, and it works because the hand does different things at each height. Keep the finish consistent and let the form vary.

A cup pull on drawers with a knob on the doors is the traditional version of the same idea.

Fixing

Most knobs are back drilled and take a single screw through the door. Check the screw length against your door thickness, particularly on a thicker shaker front or where a backplate adds depth.

Hepburn knobs come with fixings included. If your doors are thicker than standard, say so when you order and we will send longer screws.

Choosing for a whole kitchen

Send us the cabinetry list and we will work out the count and the sizes, including where a knob is the better call than a pull.
